does anybody know a good/cheap place where i can buy c41/e6 and BW film in NYC? i'd also appreciate tips for good c41/e6 film. i'd prefer intense colors.

and... one more question. i had lots of film in my luggage on my way here. i didn't think about the scanners at airports... does anybody have experience with scanned film? it was like 15 rolls of tri-x, 10 apx100, 10 ectachrome rollfilms, fuji velvia etc etc..

thanks.

Hey,

well I have my B&W T-Maxes as well as my Portras developed at a place on 6th Avenue calles modernage (http://www.modernage.com). They are fast, reliable, deliver so far excellent service and will not cry out loud when you come up with some special wishes. While not on the cheap side, I think they are reasonably priced, as well.

Another place I came across is called c-labs. It's on Broadway a little bit further down from around where the Leica Gallery is located, but to be honest I just bought some film there and never used their lab. But I heard from Jay Deutsch who is running the Gallery that they are also supposed to be a good place to bring your films to.

As far as airport scanners are concerned, I never really experienced any mentionable adverse effects that could actually be linked to the radiation. I think airport scanners are reasonably secure and that it in fact is much more important how you store your films... I met someone who blamed the security at JFK for his losses, when he told me right afterwards that he stores his rolls in a kitchen cabinet - RIGHT ABOVE HIS OVEN... Well, I guess he could just as well store them right in it, then...

Best regards

Jyn

you really should pay b&h a visit, the film is cheap (especially when you are from europe) and it is just amazing how much is going on in their store (and the system which transports your goods to the checkout :)

They also develop film but i didn´t gave it a try because there was a small lab right at the corner near my hotel, they did a good job on c-41 and kodak portra,

but it wasn´t a pro-lab. (i handed over several rolls of portra nc160 120)

enjoy your stay in new york, it is one of the most beautyful and amazing cities i´ve ever been!
