cboudier Posted September 20, 2006 Share #1 Posted September 20, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've installed the Capture One 3.7.5 release. It now support the M8, and I made some (interesting) comparison with the supplied colours spaces (CS for short) between M8, Adobe RGB, Canon EOS 1DS mk2, Fuji S3 and Epson RD1s. As you can see, the M8 CS is far bigger (in white) ! Good point. First, M8 vs Adobe RGB 1998 : Welcome, dear visitor! rosuna Posted September 20, 2006 Share #5 Posted September 20, 2006 The M8 has three options: sRGB, Adobe RGB and ECI RGB. Do you refer to ECI RGB?

cboudier Posted September 20, 2006 Author Share #7 Posted September 20, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Not at all ! These options are IMHO not very interesting... and used only when you shoot in JPEG. In general, they are only tags in the image file that say to your computer what profile to assign when you donwload your images. I'm talking about the full range captured in RAW (Capture One works only on RAW files) Here is the M8 vs ECI-RGB comparison : Welcome, dear visitor! robsteve Posted September 21, 2006 Share #9 Posted September 21, 2006 Christophe: Can you do a comparison with the DMR?
cboudier Posted September 21, 2006 Author Share #10 Posted September 21, 2006 I saw a profile for R8 and one for R9 !?! It may be the same... ie for DMR ! I'll have a look at this tonight.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted September 21, 2006 Share #11 Posted September 21, 2006 In C1 it would be R9 generic profile
grober Posted September 21, 2006 Share #12 Posted September 21, 2006 For those of us new to this level of digital cameras, does a larger white space with the M8 imply a higher order of goodness. Someone please bring the hay down where we sheep can eat it. Merci! Thank you!
Guest guy_mancuso Posted September 21, 2006 Share #13 Posted September 21, 2006 Yes the bigger the color space the more color depth the images will have . So yes bigger is better
albertwang Posted September 21, 2006 Share #14 Posted September 21, 2006 Wow, it seems like the M8 is capturing twice the amount of color gradations relative to the Epson RD1 and 2.5 times more than that of the Cannon Markys. I am impressed. This is visual proof that more information is contained on a M8 negative than most professional cameras on the market.
robbegibson Posted September 21, 2006 Share #15 Posted September 21, 2006 Christophe, You've gone to a lot of trouble here and I for one appreciate it. It would be interesting to compare the M8 against a Phase or Imacon MF back as they are native 16 bit. Thanks again, Robbe Gibson
Guest guy_mancuso Posted September 21, 2006 Share #16 Posted September 21, 2006 :D I already heard this one through the grapevine which translates into better Dynamic range and it is 16bit so you will get more color depth.
robbegibson Posted September 21, 2006 Share #17 Posted September 21, 2006 :D I already heard this one through the grapevine which translates into better Dynamic range and it is 16bit so you will get more color depth. That goes without saying. If the only difference was 12 bit vs. 16 bit, all the above 12 bit graphs would be identical. But they're not. The earlier question about comparing the DMR with the M8 is also reasonable. Does Phase use the same profile for both? Robbe Gibson
grober Posted September 21, 2006 Share #18 Posted September 21, 2006 Yes the bigger the color space the more color depth the images will have . So yes bigger is better Thank you Guy! Again, this makes me glad that I didn't jump to the Epson R-D1 but decided to wait for the M8.
