offshore Posted June 30, 2008 Share #2 Posted June 30, 2008 Is there any Leica announcement today, July 1? Any new products or upgrade? The only thing I've heard is prices are going up (again) in July.
john_f Posted July 1, 2008 Share #3 Posted July 1, 2008 The only new anouncements for today were made some minutes ago regarding Nikon's new lower price (estimated list 2800 euros) full-frame FX (near 24x36) D700 D-SLR which will use the same sensor as in its D3 (and same AF Multicam 3500FX) but with built-in dust removal (vibration). For complete info, see this link that the French photo magazine Chasseur d'Images: http://www.chassimages.com/accueil/Sommaire.xml?info=1258 So why should Leica users be concerned or interested by this new 2800 euro D700 D-SLR camera? Because this is the kind of camera that will compete directly (or very close) to Leica's upcoming R10 D-SLR. Although to be fair, Leica will use a sensor with much higher resolution (something closer to the upcoming 22-24Mp D3X) and of course, will use Leica lenses... Digital photography has become an even more competitive field and Leica has to compete with all the other players to get new customers. And that includes Nik.. and Can.. As another Forum member put it, Leica needs to hit a homerun with the R10. With the kind of competition out there, anything else would spell disaster. Let's keep our fingers crossed! Cheers, John F. Could you point us to the official source of your information concerning the specifications of the R10? My take is that the R10 isn't even on Nikon's radar (if in fact it's even on Leica's) and the D700 is here to get a jump on the expected replacement of the Canon 5D this fall. Pelican meet the Leica Forum Sheriff. Your information, regardless of where you got it, is worthless compared to his. His source "some dude at the camera store." Really an empirical guy but at least he got everything spelled correctly... this time.
