R9+DMR / M8 with Canon 580 EX II

My Metz 54MZ-I is kaput. I have a Canon camera with 580 EX I, so I was thinking of getting a 580 EX II to use with the Leica cameras as well, since the new flash now has auto mode. Has anyone used the 580 EX II with R9+DMR and/or M8? How well does it work with them? Is high speed synch possible with the R9+DMR and 580 EX II? Can I use the 580 EX II on a Leica camera as the master and fire the 580EX I as a slave?

R9 - 580 II - Modus M - manual

Master/Slave - Yes

High Speed - Yes

 

R9 - 580 II - Modus E -external (CFN 05-03 auto mode)

Master/Slave - No

High Speed - No

My 54 MZ3 bombed on me as well but Metz repaired it in 3 weeks for about $100. If you're not in a big hurry... send it in. I'm very happy with mine.
