The advertising begins...

Well, now this is interesting. A few weeks ago, I noticed a wonderfully art-directed Leica sports optics ad in the American travel magazine, Travel and Leisure.

Yesterday, the Sunday New York Times published their fall mens fashion supplement and somewhere in between ads by Prada and Hermes and Armani was an ad for... the M7. Yes, the M7. And the lens they used was the 50 'cron.

I was startled. Visually, the ad is lovely and of a piece with the earlier Ultravid ad. But a) why would they NOT have the M8 in this particular piece of advertising real estate? (Probably answer: early lead time for ad insertion, and they weren't ready.) And why did they use the 50 Summicron, instead of something sexier like the Noctilux?

Still -- wonderful to see Leica advertising in these high end, expensive magazines. It shows they are trying.
