simon_hughes Posted September 18, 2006 Share #1 Posted September 18, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Not sure if any others noticed this but this weekend, I opened the latest issue of National Geographic and there is a full-page ad showing the M8. Pretty good timing! Cheers, Simon
Advertisement Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 Hi simon_hughes, Take a look here The advertising begins.... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
like_no_other Posted September 18, 2006 Share #2 Posted September 18, 2006 It seems to be true that Leica prefers the US market. The German issue of NG shows an ad of SONY Alpha.
albertwang Posted September 18, 2006 Share #3 Posted September 18, 2006 But did they show the Sony Alpha with Zeiss lens? Aha! Gotcha.
like_no_other Posted September 18, 2006 Share #4 Posted September 18, 2006 No, they show the kit lens 18-70. Sony's target for now is to upsell users of compact/hybrid digicams. Zeiss' and Minolta's G glass and some beautiful other things come later.
simon_hughes Posted September 18, 2006 Author Share #5 Posted September 18, 2006 The Sony ad is in the same issue as well.
johnbuckley Posted September 18, 2006 Share #6 Posted September 18, 2006 Well, now this is interesting. A few weeks ago, I noticed a wonderfully art-directed Leica sports optics ad in the American travel magazine, Travel and Leisure. Yesterday, the Sunday New York Times published their fall mens fashion supplement and somewhere in between ads by Prada and Hermes and Armani was an ad for... the M7. Yes, the M7. And the lens they used was the 50 'cron. I was startled. Visually, the ad is lovely and of a piece with the earlier Ultravid ad. But a) why would they NOT have the M8 in this particular piece of advertising real estate? (Probably answer: early lead time for ad insertion, and they weren't ready.) And why did they use the 50 Summicron, instead of something sexier like the Noctilux? Still -- wonderful to see Leica advertising in these high end, expensive magazines. It shows they are trying. TimF Posted September 18, 2006 Share #7 Posted September 18, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) IIRC there was a Leica ad in the Saturday Telegraph magazine here in the UK (or it may have been Sunday's).
