Hi,

3rd roll into my R9 and the winder is stuck and doesn't move. I was putting the film in and was winding it up, shot a frame and then as I was winding it again to move the film up the winder got stuck half way. If I look in the viewfinder I see all dark so I'm assuming something in the shutter is stuck. Is there a way to fix this?

THanks for your help.

Manuel

Hi,

My R8 has had a problem for a couple of years now: the shutter fires(i think) but the mirror stays up and thus the v/f is black. My work around is to use the multiple exposure switch near the wind on.This might help in your case, let's hope so.

Maybe this is a silly question: did you try removing the winder?

Dedalus and Chris B:

Can it be that you mean different things by "winder"?

Film advance lever vs the motorized attachment, just to mention two examples.

Chris

PS. Try taking out the batteries and put them back 10 seconds later.

I think it may have to go back to Solms. No other Leica repai facility can repair R8s and R9s.

My R8 went back two years ago, and they did a great job of fixing the problem, and a CLA at the same time. It came back better than when I'd bought it.

My R8 was nearly 10 years old, so it was well out of warranty.

They fixed a wind on problem caused by a Manfrotto tripod, gave it a complete CLA, installed new firmware for tha DMR, adjusted the meter etc. It cost about £160 in 2006.

Kindermann Canada can repair R8 bodies. They do great work and are much quicker than New Jersey, Solms, DAG, etc.

They are also friendly and will answer e-mails and phone calls.

Gerry Smith is a legendary Leica repair person and he know about R8s.

Kindermann has done several jobs for me; no hesitation in recommending them.
