I was photographing this tiny turtle shel today when I noticed the serious optical issue (don't know how to describe it) that occurred when I would stop down. The issue seems to leave when I open up my aperture, but that is not a solution because I need to shoot at f8/f11 to get the depth-of-field I want. What could be happening here? If you set the aperture completely stopped-down, and then manually operate the diaphragm closing lever, does the diaphragm close normally? Does it look OK from both sides? troyfreund Posted May 28, 2008 Author Share #5 Posted May 28, 2008 Yep, aperture seems to be stopping down and opening up smoothly, off-camera. Bizarre. Just used the lens outside, at higher f-numbers, focused to infinity with no problems. So it definitely just happens in the macro range only.
