kobold Posted September 20, 2006 Share #61 Posted September 20, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have to say a Canon 5D and the 24–105 ƒ4 L IS. A great all-round tool to make images that I can sell; this puts food on the table. I have used this combo to do product shots (food), people (corporate portraits and events) and even buildings (but the 16–35 ƒ2.8L is better for that end). If this one body–one lens combination was being selected for my pleasure, OTOH, and for the sheer experience of taking good images for my own satisfaction, then the new M8 and the new Leica 24mm lens to complement it would be the way to go. In the meantime, I will nominate the PanaLeica LC-1 as the best all-rounder. It lives with me, in a cheap leather case under the passenger seat of my car. It has never let me down, and I love its images.

Guest umb Posted September 20, 2006 Share #64 Posted September 20, 2006 Very interesting to see that some people choose a camera they didn't have a chance to use yet. I guess this only happens with LEICA.

ChipNovaMac Posted September 21, 2006 Share #67 Posted September 21, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'll be re-doing lens tests of various focal lengths on the M8 (21, 24/25, 28, 35 and 50 at least). The following are just my hunches (based on testing lenses with the R-D1) and have not been backed up with testing yet, but my instincts say: 21: Both the Zeiss and Leica will do well on the M8, CV 21/4 will not do nearly as well 24: Leica 24 will be great, Zeiss 25 will be excellent as well if someone can modify the lens to bring up the 24 mm frame lines, CV 25/4 will not do nearly as well 28: CV 28/1.9 (but not the 28/3.5), Zeiss 28/2.8, Leica 28/2.0 and 28/2.8 will all be good options 35: CV 35/2.5, Zeiss 35/2.0, Leica 35/1.4 and 35/2.0 will all do well 50: CV 50/1.5, Zeiss 50/2.0, Leica 50/2.0 and Leica 50/1.4 will all do well Again, my best guesses only. Don't hold me to these until I actually test them on the M8...but I think the results may be close to this list. Cheers, Sean Thanks for the update! Disappointed to see that the CV 21 and 24 are not expected to do well - at least at this time. Sorry to see that you missed the CV 15. Based on my personal feelings and use about the T-E - and my expectations on Leica lenses in general - I am hoping for great things for the T-E Wide; both for film and digital. I can't fathom that the T-E Wide will be a "dog" of a lens in either format. Call it blind faith in Leica; but so far they have not disappointed me in their lenses over the years. Perhaps OT, but it does not seem that the M8 has a B&W (unless I missed it) for JPEG's. When I shot with my Canon Rebel XT; I loved shooting in B&W JEPG (with B&W filter options) and having the RAW format to fall back on for either color or other "B&W filter" options. I may have missed it, but when recording RAW+JPEG, is it JPEG Fine?
ChipNovaMac Posted September 21, 2006 Share #68 Posted September 21, 2006 Hi Jerry, Coded lenses when available. Cheers, Sean Do you think you will be able to cross test non coded lenses too. IMO this is an important test for those of us that don't want to give up our lenses for anything more than a week or two. Leica has been known for very slow turn around.
