abrewer Posted September 16, 2006 Share #1 Posted September 16, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) A friend asked me to recommend a digital camera, around 7 Mp, for less than four hundred dollars (street price). It's for general photography, travel, friends and family, etc. I was tempted to recommend one of the Pana/Leica's so he could get the lens performance we all know and love.... Anyone have any suggestions for Dave? Doesn't have to be a Leica, BTW. Unless Dave wants to post pictures here! Thanks. Allan

gepetto Posted September 16, 2006 Share #2 Posted September 16, 2006 Allan I would suggest the Panasonic FX07. It is the next generation from the FX01. The FX07 allows for the latest SDHC card standard allowing for the use of SD cards larger than 2GB. The SDHC standard should make for faster operation and better video quality. The processing engine is better as well for better high ISO performance and battery life. It is a very small pocket camera that has a wide 28mm focal length. The FX07 is available now. The FX01 is also still on sale. The FX01 may be cheaper than the FX07 but my humble opinion would suggest getting the FX07 as the technology is more up to date. You can also get an underwater housing rated to 40meters if this is your friends cup of tea. Stuart has posted images of the setup with his FX01.
