I switched from Windows to a Mac Pro (OS X.5). I have an Eizo CG241W, installed and calibrated by my dealer. I connected to the Mac my 2 years old R2400 and installed the printer drivers from the CD that came with the printer. It took me a while to find my was through the print menu, as it was different from what I knew from Windows, but eventually I managed:) . The print, however, looked awful -- colors way off and very light and pale:eek: . I then checked the printer manual and noticed that the printer dialogue I get looks very different from the one described in the manual. For example: - There is no option for advanced black and white. One can only choose between Grayscale, inverted Grayscale, RGB, and 3 different CMY modes. - There also is no option to disable color control by the printer. There is a tab color matching where you can theoretically choose between colorsync and vendor matching, but it is set to colorsync and impossible to change. - There is, however, the possibility to choose the paper type and to switch between photo black and photo matte. To make sure that the problem does not occur because of wrong CS3 setting,s I printed the same photo in CS3 with the setting let Photoshop determine colors, no color management, and let printer determine colors. I also printed the photo from Photoshop Elements, which I also have -- again, the same result. Finally, to make sure that the printer itself is ok, I reconnected it to my PC, and printed from the PC another photo which I had both on the PC and the Mac. The print matched the colors on the EIZO screen connected to the Mac almost perfectly (it did not match quite as well the screen connected to the PC as this screen had not been calibrated for quite some time). I then printed the same shot from the Mac -- horror:eek: . As if certain colors or blacks are not used at all. Thus, the printer itself seems to be ok, but something is wrong with the driver on the Mac. As a last piece of information, the printer driver shown is Epson Stylus Photo R2400 -- Gutenprint v.5.1.3. Georg Georg, I don't know this printer, but the first thing that struck me is that your printer - and therefore the CD that came with it - is 2 years old. The Mac OS X has been upgraded several times in that period and I think so have the printer drivers. The Epson site shows a driver uploaded for this printer in November 2007. See here: Epson Australia - Support Services I suggest you download the latest software and then work out whether you still have a problem. andym911 Posted May 25, 2008 Share #3 Posted May 25, 2008 Georg, I had exactly this same problem a while back...now I am trying to remember how I fixed it but am struggling.I did fix it however. I do remember going to the epson site and downloading the software and drivers from there and starting from scratch. GMB Posted May 25, 2008 Author Share #4 Posted May 25, 2008 I did download the newest drivers and installed them. I then removed the printer from the print queue and put it back on. I went to info and it showed that I have version 6.12 of the driver, which is the latest. The result is the same. Any help very, very much appreciated! Thanks. Georg I think the problem is that you don't have the correct printer driver chosen. Gutenprint (which has its own strengths) is a built in printer driver in OS X. For whatever reason you've got it selected instead of Epson's. This should help. As you've already downloaded the most recent Epson driver you don't have to follow the bit about checking the Apple web site to see if your printer is supported. Georg I think I was too fast:mad: Prints look much better now, in particular as I also got the latest profiles from the Epson website. But they still are all too dark and too saturated and do not match what I see on my screen (which is supposed to be very accurate). I have two profiles, one for 6500K and the other for 5500K and both set at 2.2 gamma, and I went with the Eizo guy through the set up. I don't use the gutenberg any more.
