ho_co Posted September 18, 2006 Share #21 Posted September 18, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Why in the world lug around a tripod for anything less than a 4x5? I WILL be interested to see how long it takes me to get used to the fact that the latch for the bottom plate is now on the "wrong" end - I usually hold the camera with my right hand and turn the latch with my left - not anymore! Ah, Andy! To be young again. I've recently developed a tremor that forces me to use image stabilized lenses when handholding. Or, of course, a tripod with the M. Agree on the 'where is the latch?' matter. Remember when the M5 came out? Leica apologized for the fact that the tripod socket and bottom latch were both at the same end. Do you suppose that is what did in the M5? --HC

ho_co Posted September 18, 2006 Share #22 Posted September 18, 2006 You can leave the M8 baseplate on the tripod and remove the camera from the plate if you like. Sean-- Thanks. On one tripod I use the Leica large ball & socket head, and I know that will allow access to the bottom latch. But I've seen somewhere the opinion that the relocation of the tripod socket makes it impossible to separate the baseplate and camera without removing the body from the tripod. Thanks for the clarification. --HC
