Espon 3800

Hi everybody! I was looking into buying the Epson 3800 for b/w printing, but realized it came out almost 2 years ago and there really has been no price drop. Has anyone heard any rumors about an uprgrade to the 3800?

Thanks

I've just bought it and am delighted with it. I've been out nearly 55 years and I cost more each year! Seriously its an excellent printer.

Absolutely delighted. Previous printers have been Epson 1200, 1280's with Piezotone inks and CIS, proprietary carbon based inks for black and white. The Epson K3 inks, combined with the 3800 printer has been wonderful to use, and I can do B&W on the new glossy fiber-based papers from Ilford, Harman, etc. It also uses reasonably large cartridges, and there is also a CIS available for it [inksupply.com], should that be desired.

I think the 3800 is an excellent printer, I still have the 2400 and I am satisfied with the quality but not with the handling and the small cartridges.

Anyway I would wait till June, there is a big convention in the areas of printers etc. (I forgot the name) and I heard Epson will show some new models there. Mainly also having the feature of all 9 inks always in the printer like the 3800.

I try to wait before I buy my A2 printer!

I upgraded to the 3800 from an R2400 about a month ago. Definitely the best output I've seen so far in an inkjet.

I'm looking forward to not changing ink carts so often. After the initial charging, my "new printer printing frenzy" has barely put a dent in the ink supply.

Just go for it! If you always wait for the next model to come out, you'll never end up buying anything.

Aside from giving the 3800 the 4800's paper handling mechanism (which would just make it a 4800) or a 9th head so that PK/MK didn't require any ink loss, I don't think there are many significant changes that Epson could make that would make the wait worth it. Since the x800 series is the new series, any significant design refresh is probably a ways off. I believe the only difference between the 3800 and it's newer x800 bretheren in terms of the actual print quality is the new magenta ink forumulation. I think what's being eagerly awaited by many is the refresh of the R2400 up into the x800 generation.
