mhoutman Posted September 15, 2006 Share #1 Posted September 15, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) okay, lets jump in and please don't shoot at me For me the M8 in all-black looks awesome, but perhaps it could benefit from another beleathering material. (The M8 seems to have some MP details as beleathering and lever) a additional black dot perhaps too ?
Advertisement Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Hi mhoutman, Take a look here M8 à la carte. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
marknorton Posted September 15, 2006 Share #2 Posted September 15, 2006 Doesn't look like a la carte is available for the M8 at launch though I imagine it's something they could do down the line, though of course the range of things would be limited to leather, engraving. Not much of a market for alternative wind-on levers and re-wind knobs. Right now, thery must be focussing on cloning these things as fast as they can to meet the initial demand, a large stockpile waiting just to be loaded with the firmware. I just hope we don't get the apologetic announcements we had with the DMR delaying the introduction.
grober Posted September 15, 2006 Share #3 Posted September 15, 2006 The a la carte program was a "mid life kicker" for the film M bodies. Leica surely will consider a similar program for the M8 but, let's face it, they'll be very busy in the months ahead meeting the market demand for the M8 before they'll need to resort to any enticement program for the new camera. -g
vic vic Posted September 15, 2006 Share #4 Posted September 15, 2006 my god.. whats wrong with the m8 as it is now. personally, i havenot seen yet the camera performance for picture taking (especially for hig speed settings). i think it is more important for fotography. i never understand it - i have mp, would it make any differance if it had my name on it, or no engraving at all???? better make pictures wit it first, when u need refreshment after a year or two of good photography we can talk about funny things as le'carte

There are those of us that would love to have the M8 in black paint for sure, along with a black Leica dot - instead of the red one. As some would like a different covering. And some wanting a more "traditional" Leica script adorning the top plate. Now the choice for some is whether to wait for just the right look, which could be maybe a year or better down the road. Or to live with what Leica has given us. My self; I am leaning towards just going for it now. The M8 and the T-E Wide will probably breath extra life out of my M6TTL. And cause me to take off of consignment my T-E. For I see a perfect travel kit of an M8, a M6TTL, the T-E Wide, the T-E, a 90/2.8,and either a 28/2.0 or 35/2.0 (though a 24/2.0 might be nice - Leica or Cosina, are you listening?). I do see the M6TTL being there for the T-E Wide, and for a fast 24/28/35.

If it is important to some, then it is important. I have some Leica but none was a-la-carte, but I will not be bothered if I have one. Someone buys the camera to shoot, simply shoot, someone buys it to shoot, as well as a fashion accessroy. Someone buys it for some reasons. Leica can be quite proud that it is the only company in mass production skill to offer such level of custom fitting.
frc Posted September 17, 2006 Share #8 Posted September 17, 2006 No nothing wrong with the present M8. As a future user I couldn't care less about the looks. BUT! Don't forget: the M-camera is to be seen as an industrial design classic alike the Coca-cola bottle or the Posche 911. Seen from that perspective! The red dot upfront is something I never grasped the idea behind. M8 on the front, huge<, big enough to be read from behind the horizon. A void on top created by abandoning the beautifull cut-off where the rewind was positioned. Perhaps some future owners do care about such "silly" things. No nothing wrong with the present M8.
