M8 sensor source?

I think Erwin Puts' comments are fair, but I expect no much differences in prints between images from the M8 and the Canon 5D (real detail on paper).

Hi Ruben,

I have used an Oly E-1 for the last three years and its sensor is the grand pappy of the M8's. What I have found in the post processing is that you can extract an incredible amount of additional detail data without ruining the tonality. I suspect that this will only get better with the M8's sensor. If Erwin doesn't do some exploring of this characteristic and makes some judgement, he is missing an important piece. He has some interesting articles on chemical developers and emulsion characteristics and I doubt if he could live with machine prints from film, yet that is sort of what he is doing with the digital files. The 5D has a max of 61 lp/mm, so there shouldn't be much visible difference from the M8.

Luckily for Leica, this time it has teamed up with Phase One (NOT Imacon or Jenoptik - our predictions were wrong...) to design the imaging engine of the M8, along with dedicated post processing software uniquely tailored to the Leica M8.

John, are you sure about that? Have you inside information?

The involvement of Phase One would be great news, but Jenoptik was the assumed new partner (I don't know what was the origin of that "information" though).

Both are wild-a** guesses at this point - but either could logically do the job.

The M8 DOES come with Capture One LE as the enclosed RAW developer, though. The M8 is also featured on the Phase One web site - but only to promote C1 v.3.7.5.

Would think now that the M8 is official that SOMEONE would be blowing their own horn.
