Perspectics Posted May 13, 2008 Share #1 Posted May 13, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Dear Leica Friends, I find this question a bit embarrassing because I believe I should know the answer or at least figure it out on my own... but I'm more stupid than anticipated so let me ask: Can I use my M-lenses on any other camera? Is there any adapter in existence with which you could use e.g. a C or N SLR along with your M lenses? Autofocus wouldn't work, obviously, but it would give me a thrill to use a Summilux on a EOS 450, what do you think? TIA, Claus

stunsworth Posted May 13, 2008 Share #2 Posted May 13, 2008 You could probably cobble an adaptor together - M to R, then R to EOS - but you'd only be able to use an M lens for macro applications, there'd be no infinity focussing due to the M's shorter flange to film/sensor distance. Also there's obviously be no auto diaphram.

spydrxx Posted May 13, 2008 Share #4 Posted May 13, 2008 It depends on which M lenses you are talking about. Longer lenses, designed for use with a Visoflex, (namely the 65 Elmar, the 90mm and 135mm lenses with removable heads, the 200, 280, 400, and 560, all with proper focusing attachments) can be used fine with Nikon, Canon and Leica DSLRs or film based SLRs. Your shorter lenses can be attached, but will only provide near distance focusing. I've been using all of my longer lenses on my Nikon gear for years. Thus this set of M lenses (VC12, 35cron, 50lux, 90macro-elmar) would only work for near-distance focusing. Thank you very much for the information!
