kenneth Posted May 13, 2008 Share #1 Posted May 13, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) New Leica R8 user and having problems activating very ancient Sunpak MX124 on my newly acquired R8? Sunpak MX124 fires OK when I press ready/test illuminated button but does not fire when I press the shutter either attached to the hot shoe or the flash connection socket in any mode. Advertisement Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Hi kenneth, Take a look here R8+Sunpak MX124 compatibility?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
robsteve Posted May 13, 2008 Share #2 Posted May 13, 2008 Kenneth: If your Sunpak is too old, it may have a high voltage sync circuit, which will not work with the R8. Most modern cameras require a 6v or less sync voltage. If you have a multimeter, measure the voltage between the center and side contact of the flash. The high voltage sync flashes have sync voltages over 100 volts. To use your flash with the R8 (if it the sync voltage causing the problem) , there is a device to go into the hotshoe to adapt it to the higher voltage. It is called a Wein Safe sync.
