I spent much of the weekend in tornadic winds inside my house with the panasonic lumix lx-2 / leica d-lux 3 rig... This is the first time I've tried to photograph lightning digitally...

most were junk where the sky just looked like daylight --- I had something not set right...

any tips or pointers for the best possible settings for shooting lightning with the lx2/d-lux 3 system?

I think that some of the strategies people have used to photograph fireworks would be well suited to capturing lightning.

see, the d-lux 3 and the panasonic lumix lx-2 have a fireworks mode in the presets (also has a food photography mode, candlelight mode, starry skies mode and a few other really useful presets) I'm trying to find the settings for this specific camera from someone who has done it --- back in the old slr days, I knew exactly which settings on my nikon to use, and would get great results with a roll or two of film...

I'm trying to fine tune the process here... do I set the lumix to aperture mode, shutter mode, manual, or can one of the presets pull this off... the fireworks answer is kind of headed in the right direction... We are expecting several days of lightning storms as of tonight and am just trying to find the best settings
