LKSC Posted May 12, 2008 Share #1 Posted May 12, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am going to be in New York for 2 weeks in June, and am pondering my colour film choices. I am unfamiliar with the light there at that time, and uncertain what to expect. Am more into people than architecture. I am thinking Kodachrome 64, but will conditions be too contrasty, and shadows in the street too heavy?

budrichard Posted May 12, 2008 Share #2 Posted May 12, 2008 It's a City and like all cities, its a concrete jungle for the most part. K64 is what I use along with dwindling stocks of K200. That should suffice.-Dick
andybarton Posted May 12, 2008 Share #3 Posted May 12, 2008 I would think you'd want something with less contrast than Kodachrome.
roguewave Posted May 12, 2008 Share #4 Posted May 12, 2008 More importantly, you'll want something that's faster and won't blow all the highlights for Time's Square, the Bright Lights, Big City stuff, the head lights and other cool stuff at night. Lots od big contrast between the light above and the shadows on buildings and people.
mhulbert Posted May 13, 2008 Share #5 Posted May 13, 2008 I have shot a lot in the city -- not in color, but I have found TriX to be great for BW and you really need the speed in the city for overcast days and dusk shots (and interiors). There's a lot of great action later in the day in NYC and you'll benefit from a fast film. So, try a couple rolls of Provia 400.
peterv Posted May 13, 2008 Share #6 Posted May 13, 2008 I would think you'd want something with less contrast than Kodachrome. I understand Joel Meyerowitz did some of his best New York street work, including the famous 'Tiger on Fifth' in contrasty Kodachrome: 2point8 Joel Meyerowitz Interview (Part 1) It all depends on the look you want.
