Julius Bjornsson Posted May 2, 2008 Share #1 Posted May 2, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Now I am sure spring is here, almost all the migratory birds are here, although it is still very cold (6 degrees centigrade today, and the sun was shining). Every year thousands of Brent Geese stop over here where I live, on their way to northern Canada, coming from Ireland. They stop here for a couple of weeks, increase their weight by 30-40% and fly on to their nesting grounds, over the Greenland Glacier into north Canada. In all they fly over 8000 miles per year and there was recently a very enjoyable program on the BBC web where these guys were followed with GPS technology all the way. The BBC called them Supergeese. Anyway here are a few and I am finding out that the M8 with a 135 is not the tool of choice for this, although it is quite challenging to try to catch them with it. I am missing my old huge DSLR a bit with the long tele which I sold. But portraits of birds are perhaps not interesting, showing them in their natural surroundings however is, I think. So here are a two of the geese and one from the beach nearby, which now is teeming with life. More later as spring progresses.
