Hi all, I'am the new boy here, have been happily using my trusty CONTAX TVS digital for number of years, Then.............I saw it, the D-LUX 3, it was love at first sight!, however like all love affairs there are up's and down's the only thing I dislike about the camera is lack of a viewfinder, LEICA please fix in the D-LUX 4!, the only other problem I have encountered is a problem downloading Raw files to iPhoto , I am running latest version of iPhoto 7.1.3, on a new iMac7,1, I am using 2.0GB Sandisk extreme sd card, I use a Lacie card reader to load pics,

The problem is blank squares appear on screen in 'last import' and fill with images until approx 2/3rd of images are imported then import just stops, on screen message shows missing image No's both Raw and jpeg, and states "unknown files unable to import, Re-format disk" which I have tried several times without success, I have tried new Disk same problem, very frustrating losing good pics (which are still viewable on the camera), anybody out there in Leica Land have any ideas for a fix?, Cheers all the best

I don't have a solution to your problem, but for the clarity of all:

- which version of the Mac OS? Tiger (10.4), Leopard (10.5), or something earlier?

- which major release of iLife (and hence iPhoto)? 2006, 2008/latest, or something earlier?

I am personally curious since I am on the verge of purchasing a D-LUX 3, I have a Mac with the 10.5.2 OS, and iLife (iPhoto) 2008.

I have a Powerbook running MacOSX 10.5.2. It's been my experience that iPhoto won't load the RAW files only the JPGs. I use Lightroom to import the RAWs from my Dlux3.

Hi new boy again, Yes running Leopard 10.5, on latest iMac 7.1 machine, using iPhoto 7.1.3 which is the latest version, I guess I could open imports to Photoshop (which i have linked to iPhoto for editing pics), but that kind of defeats the object of iPhoto, also means moving lots of pics around, All the best

I should have dug around more on the Apple support site before my postings.

So it appears that a later version of the 10.4 OS (Tiger) added support for the D-LUX 3 RAW images. See here:

About the Mac OS X 10.4.10 Update (delta)

It doesn't seem feasible that this support was lost with the 10.5 OS (Leopard), but then again...

i use the d-lux 3 and iphoto. raw pics haven't been a problem at all, they import right in.

intel osx 10.5.2

iphoto 7.1.3

so - raw does work in iphoto. not sure why it wouldn't for you.

I overlooked that there was a SD card reader in the mix.

Question: does anyone know if the D-LUX 3 comes with a USB cable (or similar) such that I can connect it direct to my Mac?

Yes it does. You can connect it to your TV as well, with one of the other cables included.

It's good practice to use a reader, though. You just need to buy new ones ever now and again.

I own a MacBook and I have no problems transfering RAW pictures from my DLux 3 to the computer with a USB cable. The pictures were installed in IPhoto with a JPEG copy of each one.

OS: Leopard.

Hi New Boy here again, Thanks to everybody who responded to this problem, I have now changed the card reader from the Lacie to a new Sony reader and Raw files do now seem to load along with jpeg copies as intended!, I am very pleased but also a little apprehensive whenever I load a new batch of pics!, Thanks again, All the Best

Don't worry, I've had the same issue with my LACIE reader (I think it's an incompability between 2GB card+Mac). Since I changed to a new Sandisk reader, I've had no problem.
