Some conclusions (rave) on the CL

So after using only the CL for a while now (approx 50 films), and leaving all the other gear in the box I thought that it may be interesting for some to capture my experience in a few words.

In summary I can say that it is THE perfect film camera for me.

Why?

-Size and weight are really just right for taking anywhere

-Build is solid, not quite M but close

-Functionality and handling exceptional

-Metering is extremely accurate and displayed well in VF coupled with the shutter speed dial makes it a great user friendly camera

-Quiet shutter, not as quiet as an M6 but MUCH quieter than the M8;)

-Side mounted strap lugs just work better than the other M's for carrying and shooting

-40mm Cron is just about one of the best lenses I ever used (B&W only so far)

-Focusing is smooth and accurate with the 40 and 90 TeleElmarit, no probs even with the shorter rangefinder base

-For the price an unbeatable M with exactly the same image quality as other M's

The only real downside so far is that I am spending more on film than I ever did, it is just such a fun camera to use and so portable.

It is the kit (CL ,40mm and 90mm) that I can really take with me without a bag and that means it goes out with me most of the time.I have seen several other shooters here on the forum using the CL so I hope maybe together we can attract even more followers to this truly great little M!

thanks for reading

Andy, your shots are a fine example of the excellence of this Leica. Just bought a kit for my son's 22nd birthday (Leica CL & 'cron 40) after he used my CL with the CV25 to take some very fine images. I have taken to carry this little hummer instead of the little panaleica I used to have strapped to my belt. Here's my son's 2nd image from his first roll on my CL.

The CL with a 40mm Cron is definitely a classic. I have the same outfit but missing the 90mm f4. If leica ever come out with the new digital CL it will be a killer travel camera. If you noticed your digital camera has much more shutter lag than your little CL... :)
