film about Sudek

Thanks for the link! Sudek's photographs are full of poetry, he's a master of light, almost a Czech version of Ansel Adams.

The film brought some wonderful memories - I knew Sudek when I lived in Prague 40 years ago..... His commentary in the film is great, he had a fantastic sense of humor, led a simple life with a great love of Prague and photography. Some of his cameras are still in use by another great Czech photographer - Jan Reich. You can see some of Sudek's cameras on his site - Galerie Novy Svet: Jan REICH

Great photography too!

Best,

Jan

I visited Prague for several times and whenever I’m there I have to go to the rebuilt studio and the small exhibition near the castle.

Sudek is much more than a photographer, he is a magician of light.

Have you ever seen a original print of him?

Only 4x5 inch but so very deep impressions in it,

I’m totally enthusiastic by his work.

In the Studio in his garden you can buy the DVD and watch in the rebuilt studio.

Sitting at the place he worked and lived and watch the film is real great,

you go out and see the light with new eyes.

best regards

Hi;

Some of his photographs can be seen in a book by Anna Farova. “Josef Sudek. Poet of Prague” It’s an Aperture Book. Great pictures form a great photographer.

Amazon only has second hand issues, but I bought my copy at a bookstore here in Norway, so there should be possible to get it elsewhere.

His pictures, and this book, are among the things that has inspires me to “upgrade” to large format :-)
