nikau Posted April 23, 2008 Share #1 Â Posted April 23, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a specific need for an up-to A4 inkjet printer. The purpose for which it's intended requires something with a relatively compact physical footprint and will only ever be needed for 6x4, 5x7 and 8x10 or maybe 8x12. My priorities would be image quality, reliability and cost of operation. A3 printers like Epson's R2400 are too physically large, but I want something smaller that can deliver R2400/Canon 9500 type of quality. I was hoping members of the forum would have some recommendations from personal experience.

rick_dykstra Posted April 23, 2008 Share #2 Â Posted April 23, 2008 Hi Nikau. I recently bought a Canon MP610 to sit alongside my Epson 2400. The Canon is more compact as it only prints A4, not A3+ like the Epson. So far I'm very impressed with the Canon. It has significantly higher res than the Epson, from my memory of the specs. I bought it to print onto printable CDs but have run a few photo prints through it too and it's very good. It doesn't clog the heads in the way the Epson does, which should lead to less wasted ink over time. So, for a quick recommendation, I'd go have a look at the Canon printers in this range. It is also a scanner (but not film), a photocopier, will print directly from memory cards or connected cameras. It connects via USB, not firewire like some other higher end printers. Best thing, it cost about a quarter of the price of an R2400, up at the local electronics store. Â I decided to have a look at Canon after my neighbour bought one and showed me his 6x4s, which were as good as or better than the prints I was getting from the Epson. Â I'm happy with it. Â Regards, Rick.
hdg Posted April 23, 2008 Share #3 Â Posted April 23, 2008 Look at the Epson R800, the small brother of the R2400. It has the same characteristic than the big one. Â Regards Hans
stunsworth Posted April 23, 2008 Share #4 Â Posted April 23, 2008 Not quite. The R800 is the smaller brother of the R1800. Both have been out for a while, but the results I've seen from the R800 are very good.
