JohnGregory Posted April 1, 2008 Share #1 Posted April 1, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a Leitz 180 f/3.4 APO-Telyt-R just purchased and I want to put filter on it. The books say it needs an E60 filter and I have now got a nice minty Leitz one from ffords. However it does not screw on to the lens and even if it did the built in lens hood would foul it. What an I doing wrong?

doubice Posted April 2, 2008 Share #2 Posted April 2, 2008 John, The 180mm Apo-Telyt was available with two filter mounts. The earlier ones (which you probably have), use series 7.5 drop-in filters, lenses after serial no. 2 947 024 use 60mm (E-60) screw-in ones. Your lens should have a filter retaining ring (no. 14263) which unscrews and is used to hold the series 7.5 filter in place. Leica used to offer a conversion service for this lens, which would turn a series 7.5 filter mount into one accepting 60mm accessories. It was relatively expensive and I am not sure if it is still offered. There also used to be an adapter available, which would convert the 7.5 series thread to the more common 60mm - again I am not sure if it is still available.
