wh12399 Posted March 31, 2008 Share #1 Posted March 31, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Will anyone please tell me which brand of 4gb sd memory card can be use on my M8? I had tried the SandDish Extreme III 4gb but cannot format and displayed with memory full. This card, however, can be used on my D-lux 3. There is no firmware update to use 4gb but the M8 manual (book) supports the 4gb.

stunsworth Posted March 31, 2008 Share #2 Posted March 31, 2008 Transcend 150X - this isn't an SDHC card. The M8 doesn't support SDHC at this moment in time.

wparsonsgisnet Posted March 31, 2008 Share #4 Posted March 31, 2008 WH, It is my experience that 4Gb cards take twice as long to write to as 2Gb cards. When I will be doing a lot of serial shooting, I use a 2Gb card rather than the 4gb card because the buffer clears twice as fast when I'm using the 2GB card. I am using Ridata 2GB 150x cards and Transcend 4GB 150x cards. I am hoping that the new HCSD cards will be faster, but I wonder if the M8's write bus woilltake advantage of the faster HC cards. We'll see.

geoff Posted April 1, 2008 Share #7 Posted April 1, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Transcend offers a number of 4GB memory cards in both SDHC and “SD Compatible” versions. To avoid confusion, the card referred to, and which works in the Leica M8, is the Transcend 4GB X150 “SD Compatible” memory card, TS4GSD150. Currently, the best price I have found for this card is USD $44.99 at Newegg.com. I am patiently awaiting SDHC support for the Leica M8 by way of a promised future firmware update, as stated on page 2 of the latest 2008-01 Leica M8 FAQ, and would like to see this feature put to the front burner on Leica’s firmware to do list for a number of reasons: The cost of SDHC memory cards can now be acquired at much lower costs per GB than comparable SD memory cards. As an example, the Transcend 4GB SDHC Class 6 memory card, TS4GSDHCC6, can be had for USD $14.95, one third the going cost of the Transcend 4GB X150 “SD Compatible” memory card. As noted by, Bill Parsons, of the 4GB “SD Compatible” memory cards that do work in the Leica M8, the write speed is about half that of the better traditional SD memory card offerings. SDHC memory cards specifications and requirements support faster write times. SDHC specifications and requirements of manufacturers, as spelled out by the SD Card Association (SDA), are much more stringent and legally binding with the intent to insure accurate speed ratings and results, and minimize the level of incompatibilities as seen with SD cards and host devices. SDHC offers more capacity over standard SD memory cards. While this may not be an issue for most, it is beneficial for event photographers who tend to shoot a lot of images and cannot afford to miss a critical shot due to the swopping out memory cards. 16GB capacity SDHC memory cards have been shipping for some time and 32GB capacities are scheduled by this summer.
