Noctilux Or A 50 Lux ?

In another post I explained that I use an M7 and a 75 lux when I shoot my sons band in bars with low and difficult lighting situations. My pictures were often too blurry .In that post , the solution was to shoot faster film and avoid aperture priority mode which has helped greatly. Now I need a 50mm lens for the same work and I am torn between the 2 above lens. The nocti seems impressive at F1 or F1.2 and the lux seems like an all around performer. ( pre asph or asph ? ) I already have a 50 cron, 75 lux and a 35 lux asph. What do you all think is my best choice?

Thanks in advance,

Ken

Ken- I own both, and for your purpose, rock concert shooting with film, I definitely recommend the Noctilux. I prefer it on the M7 over the M8 in all cases, it's just better full frame with it's natural fall off. and film is a bit more forgiving of focus. In fact, I almost sold mine to fund a nikon D3 (my more definitive solution for such work, iso 6400 helps!) but shot a roll with the nocti and M7 at a concert that convinced me to keep it. You can see them here, the B&Ws only. Now I just have to figure how to pay for the D3!

I have both (but the Lux is pre-asph). I had slight difficulty focussing the Nocti with the M8 versus the 50 (focus very well on my M7). The signatures are different wide open but I felt converged as the lens were stopped down. For the price, I would say go for the 50 Lux. I have been told many times that the ASPH is a great lens for the price. I am thinking of selling my 50 cron.

Best regards,

Arif

Steve, can you please elaborate? I am interested in the basis for your opinion. It will help me in my evaluation

Ken, size, weight and image quality. Plus the Nocti is a pig to focus at f1 with a film camera, with an unforgiving digital body such as the M8 it's even more difficult IMHO.
