andybarton Posted September 9, 2006 Share #1 Posted September 9, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Here's a link to a 180 panorama view from the top of The Old Man of Coniston. (3.5MB - and yes, I know that there's a speck of dust on the sensor... ). Unfortunately, my pano software will only handle 17 images, so the full width wasn't possible.... http://www.andybarton.com/180pano.jpg Around 2600 ft above sea level (reasonably high for England). A nice "leg-stretcher") The detail (below) shows Blackpool Tower, which is 45 miles away as the crow flies from the summit. (You can see the individual cells on the sensor on this crop) I wouldn't think that it's very common to see much further than this, from this point. One can see the Isle of Man, Scotland, the Pennines (including Inglebrough), Blackpool, the Scafell range... The land behind this tower is Southport. Advertisement Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Hi andybarton, Take a look here View from the _top_ of the "Old Man". I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
elansprint72 Posted September 9, 2006 Share #2 Posted September 9, 2006 Slightly disappointing: whilst I can see that that bloke on the third boat from the left on Windermere is reading the Guardian, I can't read the date; are you sure that your UV filter was clean? Nice one, old man. Pete.
MrEd Posted September 10, 2006 Share #3 Posted September 10, 2006 Amazing resolution. Cool experiment, what gave you the idea of doing this? Thanks for sharing. Ed. .
andybarton Posted September 10, 2006 Author Share #4 Posted September 10, 2006 Amazing resolution. Cool experiment, what gave you the idea of doing this? Thanks for sharing. Ed. Cheers. Not so much of an experiment, more a proof. I knew the outcome - I knew I could walk to the top of the mountain The tower was visible to me from the top (there's a huge ferris wheel just to the right as well, which I could see), and, as I was putting together the panorama, I looked to see if the DMR would resolve something that far away. Which it did.
