el.nino Posted March 22, 2008 Share #1 Posted March 22, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Due to accuracy most of the time i am using an handheld lightmeter sekonic L-398. but this afternoon i got very different readings from the built in light meter and the sekonic meter. about two to three f-stops difference. a half to one would be normal but this is way too much. so i finished the film (there only 3 exposures left) and triple-checked EVERYTHING: the contact on the mp's backdoor, all settings, different lenses but there was always a big difference. i did my tests on the gras, on walls in my car - almost everywhere in the shadow and in bright sunlight. as i am very used to the sekonic-meter i can eleminate this caused by my own foolishness. about an hour later and with a new film loaded (5 p.m. - still daylight but no more sun) everything was back to normal. unfortunately i did not have my digital sekonic (L-558) with me to check which lightmeter was wrong. may this be caused by not so fresh batteries in the mp (though there was no battery-warning)? can there be such a huge difference between light-metering and object-metering? maybe the iso-setting did not work well on the mp as i was taking some shots in light rain yesterday (though i didn't have to change the setting)? any hints would be appreciated. FotoABC Posted March 23, 2008 Share #2 Posted March 23, 2008 I also encounter the same problem from time to time, and want to know the reason why. Claude
rob_x2004 Posted March 23, 2008 Share #3 Posted March 23, 2008 Heard of it before. Anything to do though with lens selection and TL? I mean the fixed metering area will be different through the lens real world area.

TL? did you meen TTL? i tried two lenses. 50 summicron and 90 summicron. and i always metered an even lighted area during my testings. there were no highlights, reflections or anything else within this area. symmetron Posted April 11, 2008 Share #5 Posted April 11, 2008 I had 2 MPs wit flaky meters, but the problem you're describing sometimes happens when comparing incident versus reflected light meter readings. Are you comparing reflected versus reflected, or incident versus reflected?
aero Posted April 11, 2008 Share #6 Posted April 11, 2008 My MP arrived with a bad meter at my dealer - they replaced the camera with a new one since it was brand new, and the second one broke within a month. MP meters, is there a connection? Ad
cosmonaut Posted April 11, 2008 Share #7 Posted April 11, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Could it be the contacts on the door? Looks like a poor connection there could cause problems.
