edtpm Posted February 29, 2008 Share #1 Â Posted February 29, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I am going to purchase a good quality of UV filter for my DSLR Len. Just wondering whether Leica UV filter will be able to remove or reduce the flare? How about compare with B+W MRC UV filter? Thanks.

marknorton Posted February 29, 2008 Share #2 Â Posted February 29, 2008 I think most here would say the best filter to use on a lens is no filter and if we didn't need to use IR filters on the M8 we wouldn't use any filter at all. Â If you are shooting where flare is a problem, the extra air-glass surfaces are likely to make it worse, not better.
stunsworth Posted February 29, 2008 Share #3 Â Posted February 29, 2008 Totally agree with what Mark says. The only time I used filters on my film Ms was when I was shooting b&w - which I confess was the majority of the time. Â In fact the Noctilux instructions advised not to use filters with that lens. Symeon Posted March 14, 2008 Share #4 Â Posted March 14, 2008 Basically you dont need UV for later Leitz optics but if you must try the B&W brand. Anyhow filtres do not really eradicate flare or other optical defects, lens multicoating does. Avoid small apertures and use a hood instead, it helps. Regards.
