Am looking to get an older R model and the R5 looks to be pretty much what I am looking for.

In terms of size/weight is the R5 smaller than the other R models?

I like where possible to keep weight and bulk down to a minimum.

Second question regarding the summicron 2/50 any major differences in build quality I should look out for on the older versions?

Am looking to spend about Euro 600,00 for both body and lens...sound about right?

thanks for comments

Hi Andy,

I have an R-E (a close relation to the R5) and it is about the same size as any standard 1980s SLR, certainly more compact than a Leicaflex.

As for the Summicron, the received wisdom is that the later version is supposed to have a slight edge at widest aperture. I've owned both and I must say that I have not seen any difference in performance but regarding build quality, I somehow managed to remove the front end of a second version whilst removing a filter. Build quality of the 1st version is superb.

The price sounds about right compared to a trustworthy dealer here in the UK, assuming condition of both body and lens are at least exc.++ condition.

Cheers, Ken.

The R4s (=R4 plural, not only the R4s & R4sP/mod 2) are the most compact of Rs, I believe. My R4sP, without the drive, is on a little larger than my CL, though the R lenses are bigger. So, for size, maybe an R4 would be preferable for you. Anyway, it would be worth your time to look.
