sonare Posted September 4, 2006 Share #1 Posted September 4, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) After years with Leica film cameras and lenses I have bought a used D2 and am really enjoying the flexibility. However, sometimes the 90mm equivalent isn't long enough-- has anyone tried a supplemental solution? I am not expecting optical results in the same league as the on-camera zoom. OTOH I have been a bit disappointed with the barrel distortion at the widest focal length. Comments? Suggestions? Rich

marknorton Posted September 4, 2006 Share #2 Posted September 4, 2006 I thought there were some lens extenders made by Panasonic. Can't remember if they took it wider or longer but they were quite expensive, big, heavy. The camera has been discontinued for quite a time, so not clear how easy they will be to get. Keeping in mind the actual focal length at the wide end is just 7mm, I think they have distortion amazingly well under control for an f2 lens. If I had not owned and used the 21mm Super Angulon-R lens I would not complain! I was simply a bit surprised to see this on a "Leitz" optic. I am still a happy camper-- especially if I can find a "long" solution besides cropping the image, although that is surely the most cost-effective. If I can get an add-on at a reasonable price, the first thing I'll do is test it against the cropping option. Perhaps someone has already done this? leicapfile Posted September 8, 2006 Share #4 Posted September 8, 2006 I'd like a little extra 'reach' also. Even 120-135mm equivelent would be enough. However, I can't imagine that it could be done w/o some degredation to lens performance. I'd hate to see an add-on ruin what is a truly marvelous lens, especially for a zoom. It's almost like they sold the lens at a bargain price, and added a camera body as an afterthought. Best, Jerry

Back in my later school/student days (far too long ago to admit!) when I had a (gasp) Practika SLR I found I was using either a 135 or a 35 lens. Incidentally I also had a brief liason with a Leica at that time - now wish I had kept it!
