albert Posted February 18, 2008 Share #1 Posted February 18, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Greetings. I have an I-Book at home with the shiny glass display. Here, at work I have a Dell flat screen monitor. I am either going crazy or have just noticed that there is a major difference in brightness and zing. I took my eagle photograph back into (PS Elements here at work) and gave him a boost. Do you think the shiny glass display is tricking me into thinking that some of my photographs have more life than they really do ?

michali Posted February 18, 2008 Share #2 Posted February 18, 2008 Al- There's no question that this image is livelier when compared to the original posting. Ii would also guess that when you take this image back to your I-Book it will look over-enhanced. I've recently noticed the same thing between my laptop & I-MAC. I've spent many hours swapping images between the 2 machines. I guess a further issue is how each viewer's screen is calibrated. MIKE

michali Posted February 18, 2008 Share #4 Posted February 18, 2008 Al- I'm now looking at your picture on my I-Mac, my previous comment was made while viewing from my laptop. I've got them side by side and the picture on the I-Mac looks flatter. I'm getting the same effect that you're getting, i.e. the laptop makes the pic look more enhanced than it actually is. I guess this implies that the smaller screen is not as accurate? MIKE
albert Posted February 18, 2008 Author Share #5 Posted February 18, 2008 Hi Mike, Thanks for taking the time to help me figure out what is going on. I think what you are seeing is one part of what I am experiencing. I think the BIG DIFFERENCE is APPLE's new gloss-finished display. It's like wetting down a dry stone......the stone becomes alive with color and light. When this (same thing) is viewed on a non-glossy display it looses some of it's luster. This could be my story.... and I'm stick'n to it. Maybe. Al
psquared Posted February 19, 2008 Share #6 Posted February 19, 2008 Al, That's more like it. Awesome! Peter
PhotoArchival Posted February 20, 2008 Share #7 Posted February 20, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Really nice capture with the d-lux 3 and the extender! This version looks better to me also! It's a shame that the new i-macs don't have a more matte screen! Guess I wont be getting one of those after all... Gerhardt Isringhaus Posted February 20, 2008 Share #10 Posted February 20, 2008 Al, Didn't see the other version, but this is compelling and beautiful!
albert Posted February 20, 2008 Author Share #11 Posted February 20, 2008 Gerhardt, Sorry for the confusion....the other version had been posted previously under the title: "Digiscoped Eagle". In retro-spect I think it appears too washed-out because of inadequet post-processing and not because my Macbook display has a glossy finish. Thank you for the nice comments, Al
