iainmurray Posted February 14, 2008 Share #1 Posted February 14, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Can anyone please tell me how to remove the protection ring so that I can attach a lens hood? It is screwed down too tightly for me to budge it and I am wary of damaging a precision instrument. Ten minutes later...Panic over thanks to a tip from Leica at Milton Keynes - put a rubber band around the ring, that way you can get a good grip on the thing. iainmurray Posted February 14, 2008 Author Share #3 Posted February 14, 2008 No, not rubber ring - rubber band - the kind the postman leaves on the ground. You wrap it around the protection ring and it helps you to get a purchase on it.
Your Old Dog Posted February 15, 2008 Share #4 Posted February 15, 2008 If you get caught without a rubber band you can use your leather belt. Just wrap it once around the filter and pinch the belt tightly together where the leather comes together and twist your entire hand around the lens barrell and they come right off. I've done it many times with my tv camera lens filters when shooting at night and want to avoid the internal reflections. If you use the rubber band trick, grab it with three didgits and not just the thumb and forefinger as they will make the filter egg shapped and actually cause it to bind. A three finger hold works best here.
