lphong Posted February 14, 2008 Share #1 Posted February 14, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, The double images in the the viewfinder appears to have a miss-alignment problem on my 10 years old M6. I mean...one of the shadows is slightly higher than the other one. Is it a big problem? and it it home solvable? I rang up Leica UK and they told me it would cost £35-40 :'( Pok
Advertisement Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 Hi lphong, Take a look here M6 view finder miss alignment. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
christer Posted February 14, 2008 Share #2 Posted February 14, 2008 Are you sure the camera is the problem? Do you wear glasses? Astigmatism? Do you look straight into the finder or are you a bit off axis? That may be contributing to the problem.

valtof Posted February 14, 2008 Share #6 Posted February 14, 2008 one of the shadows is slightly higher than the other one. More seriously, it sounds like a range finder vertical misalignment. It can of course be fixed. The screw is behind the red dot. If I'd be you, I wouldn't do that myself. As your camera is 10 years old, I think it's pretty much the occasion for an overall service at a certified Leica dealer or sending it directly to Solms. nobbylon Posted February 14, 2008 Share #7 Posted February 14, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Pok, 2 ways to do it. 1/ by special tool from outside going through a hole under the red dot. Trashes the red dot most of the time! 2/ with the top cover off during a cla. As annoying as it is I wouldn't bother getting it done until it needs a cla. I got my cla done by Will van Manen in the Nederlands, he's good and fast! index.html
jonathan_r Posted February 14, 2008 Share #8 Posted February 14, 2008 Vertical misalignment is not critical to focussing accuracy. If you can put up with it, save yourself £40. I put up with mine for years - then I dropped the camera and it became a lot worse. When I got it corrected by Leica UK, I was amazed how much clearer the rangefinder patch became. You can do the job at home if you have the special tool, but the advice is generally 'don't!'. I suspect much of the £40 is postage and insurance. If you live anywhere near Leica UK, you might ask what the price is if you drop it in and collect it. They were very helpful to me.

How much did it cost you? Or does anyone know how much would a overall service roughly cost in the UK? Thank you all again!
