Agent M10 Posted February 12, 2008 Share #1 Posted February 12, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have an R9 and love it, but I've read a little about the SL/SL2 and am intrigued about the viewfinder. I also have the chance to pick one up on the cheap. That being the case, can anyone provide some knowhow about the SL2 vis-a-vis the R9 and let me know if my 90 APO and 50 Lux will fit? Thanks in advance.
Advertisement Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 Hi Agent M10, Take a look here Leica SL2. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Michiel Fokkema Posted February 12, 2008 Share #2 Posted February 12, 2008 Hi, I have a R8 and but recently bought a SL2. The vf is bigger and more bright but a little less contrasty. in dimm light it is better but in bright light it can be too much. I had it cla'd and really like the smoothness of this camera. Feels like a M2. If your lenses fill fit depends on the cams. The SL2 needs the two Sl cams. 3 cams lenses can be used, R-only cams lenses can be used but will have no coupling. Rom lenses can not be used but might be converted. My 50 lux does fit. i also have a 50 which has only the r-cam. The 90 apo is very recent. Might not have the sl cams. Cheers, Michiel Fokkema
cwf Posted February 12, 2008 Share #3 Posted February 12, 2008 You might find this explanation of the cams on R lenses helpful: Leica FAQ - Why do R lenses come in 2/3-CAM or ROM mounts?
wildlightphoto Posted February 13, 2008 Share #4 Posted February 13, 2008 Any conversion to 3-cam means ROM contacts will be removed. For lenses that have SL mirror clearance and ROM, another option is to use a slightly-modified SL (flange milled to accept R-only lenses) with a slightly modified lens (2nd cam added). This cannot be done with the SL2 because the camera's first cam follower (for the viewfinder aperture display) will foul the ROM contacts on the lens.
