davidecossu Posted February 11, 2008 Share #1 Posted February 11, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everyone, I have noticed that when I scan my negatives after clicking invert on photoshop many of them come out bleached out even if the negative is properly exposed and it takes lot of curves to correct it. Generally these are pictures with bright areas or taken on sunny days. I always set Silverfast SE on 16 Bit HDR Grayscale to get a TIF file. What do I do wrong? Thank you. Advertisement Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Hi davidecossu, Take a look here overexposure after scanning. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
robsteve Posted February 11, 2008 Share #2 Posted February 11, 2008 What film are you scanning? In silverfast there is an option to select the film brand and type. That should get you pretty close. I then use the curve tool of silverfast to fine tune the image before scanning. When I open my 16bit greyscale scans in Photoshop, I have them open as 2.2 gamma. I think the default Photoshop setting was to open at 20% dot gain. When I used this, the file in Photoshop was lighter than the file shown in Silverfast Robert
Kasimir Posted February 11, 2008 Share #3 Posted February 11, 2008 Try NegPos C F Systems Innovations in Sight and Sound - Photoshop plug-ins page After doing this You'll like to scan all Your negs anew. PS really does a terrible job in inverting the negative files. At least I can see a difference and like the NegPos more. Otherwise I agree with robsteve (2.2 Gamma is important)
davidecossu Posted February 12, 2008 Author Share #4 Posted February 12, 2008 How do i open them at 2.2 gamma?
robsteve Posted February 12, 2008 Share #5 Posted February 12, 2008 How do i open them at 2.2 gamma? You probably have to change your photoshop color setting to ask what to do when you have color space missmatches. You are probably automatically converting to the working space of PhotoShop.
