Around the time of PMA, the Leica web site announced the new Leica customers area. I followed the directions and registered, but I don't seem to be able to get into the special Customers area using my username and password. Is this area not yet active or am I making a mistake loggin in?

Hi Robert, I've just registered and been able to access the site.

I used a different email address and the registration process completed with the confirmation email.

There doesn't seem to be much in the customers area yet, just a spot to list your gear and any notes about it. Probably more of a marketing ploy than anything else.

One nice feature of the user area is the ability to inventory all your Leica equipment. Even has the ability to link an image of your camera/lens to the equipment record. I need to look again but I may put an image of my original receipt out their as well.

Actually, being the online marketer that I am, this mechanism (customer area) actually is a very nice way of profiling their customer base. Having fresh demographic info and camera/lens ownership preferences means they can more effectively market to you.

And, do you know what, that's actually good for everyone. You will not get unwanted offers/information and Leica will be able to market their product to the correct audiences more effectively. It's all good.

PS- They even have the old 73mm Hektor I got last week, quite a comprehensive listing of products.
