geoff Posted July 2, 2006 Share #3 Posted July 2, 2006 As updates to Apple's Aperture come by way of Core Image, I wondered if Aperture now supports the D-LUX 2? I was disappointed to see that the 10.4.7 update did not bring with it Raw support for neither the Leica D-Lux 2 nor the Leica Digital-Module-R. Improvements to Aperture come by way of both Mac OS X and Aperture updates. However, Raw camera support additions are separate from changes to Core Image itself even though they both come byway of Mac OS X updates. The latest Aperture update, 1.1.2, released the other week, has dramatically improved performance as reported by most users. It seems that Apple now has Aperture up to spec with most outstanding bugs and performance issues addressed. Rounding out Raw camera support is one big area that Apple needs to devote critical resources to.The goal needs to be to match at least every camera that Adobe supports along with support already in place for new cameras as they come to market. This is all done with system level code separate from Aperture but has a tremendous impact on how Aperture is perceived and accepted by both photo buffs and professionals alike. Even though I acquired Aperture late last year, I had to wait all the way until April until Raw support for my Leica Digilux 2 was provided byway of the Mac OS X 10.4.6 update. I work strictly in Raw and was not even interested in doing the Raw to TIFF or .PSD workaround beforehand. However, the experience and benefit of utilizing Aperture, once Digilux 2 Raw file support was in place, was way beyond my high level of standards and expectations. Very disappointing that your D-Lux 2 and the Digital-Module-R did not make the cut for 10.4.7. Your options in the mean time are serveral: • Make TIFF or Photoshop copies of your Raw D-Lux 2 files for import into Aperture. • Use the “New Version From Master JPEG” option to display your images with in Aperture. • Use the latest free beta version of Adobe Lightroom in the interim. • Hack both the libRaw.dylib and Raw.plist files to obtain pseudo D-Lux 2 Raw support.
