leicatwins Posted February 1, 2008 Share #1  Posted February 1, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have been desperately trying to calibrate my Epson R230 with my NEC S900 notebook/Adobe Lightroom. But so far, I could not find good printed images from my M8. The print outs from the Epson always darker than the image on my 90 degree angle display. Physically, I have to bend my display to around 135 degree angle to get a little bit similar brightness between my notebook display and the print outs.  Therefore, I always increase the brightness in the Lightroom to around 122 scale to get at least same brightness.  Recently, I changed the gamma value to 1.5 instead of 1.8 and 2.2. Does anybody use this value? It gives me better synchronization, not perfect though.  My current setting is : In Lightroom - 240 ppi resolution - low print sharpening - profile : managed by printer - rendering intent : perceptual In Epson - Color control with gamma 1.5 - Color mode : adobe RGB - Best photo with Epson premium glossy  Anybody experienced with this printer, please share your experience. Marquinius Posted February 1, 2008 Share #2 Â Posted February 1, 2008 DJ, Â I don't have the R230 (use a R2400 myself) but still I have some thoughts: Â Gamma 1.5 ... as far as I know, 2.2 should be used as the whole idea of 1.8 for Macs is nice from an historical viewpoint, but nothing else. Furthermore: 85% is using PC's (2.2), so if you don't stick to 2.2, 85% will (perhaps) see your photo's differently. Â Prints are darker than your screen: did you check if screen brightness is correct (slightly above half way should do the trick) Â Profile: if you are calibrating and using lightroom, DON'T let the printer manage the profile (in set up: "off") or everything will be managed twice. Â Are you using the right type of paper? In LR you can specify the ICC profile of the paper, somewhere on the right bottom side. Â Hope this helps.
