ho_co Posted January 30, 2008 Share #1 Posted January 30, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Good analysis again from the master at Lens testing again! (Jan 29, 2008) | Photography and image capture: the Leica technique and philosophy by Erwin Puts | Erwin Puts. Just to be fair to the opposed point of view: Mr Puts remarks on the fact of reduced contrast from the Heliar 75 as compared to the Summicron 75, but doesn't mention that the 'reduced performance' of the former might be preferred by some photographers. But matters of opinion don't easily allow quantification, and I think the article presents the facts clearly. --HC

sdai Posted January 30, 2008 Share #2 Posted January 30, 2008 FWIW, I always bet my money on test charts and lab numbers. I've no doubt that every competent designer and engineer knows (very well) what they're doing. Personal taste is a completely different matter, I've posted a picture on the M8 board last night. There're people adapting a 30k+ digital back to a 100 dollar worth Fujipet built in last century. That's why every industry has its own standard, right? apples should always be compared to apples. ho_co Posted January 31, 2008 Author Share #3 Posted January 31, 2008 No arguments, Simon. I don't know what a Fujipet is, but it sounds terrifying, even without a 30-megapixel back! Still, I guess there's a charm to doing what hasn't been done before. --HC
sdai Posted January 31, 2008 Share #4 Posted January 31, 2008 Howard, the Fujipet is a 6x6 120 toy camera Fujifilm built between 1957 and 1963 ... if I had that time and money, I'd love to have a Zeiss K8 at home and benchmark all my collections. LOL Cheers!
