markgay Posted April 22, 2008 Share #41 Posted April 22, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Why assume that the next version of the camera will be 'better'. Putting more and more pixels on small sensors makes the image quality worse in terms of noise and requires more processing to smooth out the blemishes. You can hope Panasonic will keep the LX2 at 10MP and include a faster processor and bigger buffer. But that's not what camera manufacturers are doing. See this quote from DPReview on the G9, which could be said of the LX2/DLux3 as well: "But inside, at the heart of the image capture system, sits the same (or an almost identical) sensor you'll find in a Casio, Canon or Sony point and shoot camera, in all it's 12 megapixel glory. When I mentioned giving Canon credit for listening to feedback on the G7 (and boy was there a lot of feedback) I don't remember anyone crying out for even more megapixels. Whatever drove Canon's top brass to look at the G7 and decide 'I know what it needs! More Pixels!' it certainly wasn't consumer demand. .... Canon could never be accused of taking risks with its cameras, but a company this big could surely gamble on enough people buying a high end model with a sensor to match the rest of the package, even if it meant dropping the pixel count by half (hey, Nikon still sells a lot of D40's at 6MP, and Fujifilm proved you could sell a 6MP compact on image quality alone)." As to the DLux3, it's a beautiful lens. Wider, with less distortion than the G9 lens. It really shines outdoors on sunny days. For interior shots it's a compromise.. but hold it still, at the lowest ISO, or use a mini tripod with no flash and no OIS... and the lens shows its beauty. INNOVATOR Posted May 6, 2008 Share #42 Posted May 6, 2008 Maggie, I'm with you. Silver is soooooooooooo, stylish. I just got mine a few hours ago. At first, I was deadset on getting the black, as most red dots are in black. But when I kept looking at the silver, I wanted to be more discreet, and yet know that I have the Rolls Royce (brand) of cameras.
