gIzzE Posted January 26, 2008 Share #1 Posted January 26, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi guys, Just bought a Digilux 3, with the rebate offer and a free C-Lux 2, I couldn't resist. I have been using a Canon 20d with the 50mm 1.8 and the 35mm 2.0 and an LX2 Panny as a day time point and shoot and and a Fuji F30 for evening events as a point and shoot. Only got the Digilux 3 yesterday, but love the images it is kicking out, just a shame it is so noisy at 800 and above, to be fair 800 is not terrible and the noise is different to most cameras in that it doesn't seem to try and hide it with a digital smear. But the 20d is pretty impressive at 1600 iso and at 800 is noise free until you get to serious size prints. In fact the £150 Fuji F30 is quieter at 1600iso than the Leica by quite some margin. However, you start to shoot a few pics and you let it off, it has such a nice overall feel to both the physical handling and the images it produces. But I do enjoy shooting people in low light situations and think I need (or should that read want?) the 25mm f/1.4. But looking around I can't find anywhere with stock, B&H have no stock and now I have seen their price of $799 paying more seems so wrong! I am in the UK, so buying over here is the ideal, but would buy from anywhere at the right price. So any ideas on where to get one??
Advertisement Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 Hi gIzzE, Take a look here Who has the D 25mm/F1.4 ASPH in stock?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
spylaw4 Posted January 26, 2008 Share #2 Posted January 26, 2008 You might try asking on one of the 4/3 forums fourthirds-user.com or fourthirdsphoto.com. The late Wey Cameras used to keep them in stock but I believe they have ceased trading.
nhmitchell Posted January 26, 2008 Share #3 Posted January 26, 2008 I placed an order with B&H a few weeks ago when it was out of stock. They assured me that my order would receive priority. It appears they were true to their word. I received my lens last week. Out of curiosity, I kept checking the availability at B&H through the whole process. It appears that they had lenses in stock for only four or five days. My suggestion is to place your order and cross your fingers. You can always cancel if you find another one somewhere else. It is truly worth the effort and worth the wait. And kudos to B&H for great service. Nick
gIzzE Posted January 26, 2008 Author Share #4 Posted January 26, 2008 Thanks for that guys. I wish B&H had them in stock now, I could get a friend to collect it next week. I may give them a call and ask when they are expecting them.
goodbokeh Posted January 26, 2008 Share #5 Posted January 26, 2008 Thanks for that guys. I wish B&H had them in stock now, I could get a friend to collect it next week. I may give them a call and ask when they are expecting them. Well, even if you have to wait a month (like I did) for B&H to restock, it is well worth it! This is a lens that you will keep for many years, as opposed to 4/3rds bodies which will come and go as technology advances.
gIzzE Posted January 27, 2008 Author Share #6 Posted January 27, 2008 After having a play with the digilux tonight I have decided this lens is a must, friend bought my 20d off me and have to say with the 35mm which is an f/2.0 it really showed the Leica up for low light snaps. I have signed up for notification as soon as B&H have them back in stock. Just that a mate is over in New York next weekend so he could have sneaked it back in his luggage which would have saved me approx. $300 on shipping, import duty an tax. DonQuijote Posted January 27, 2008 Share #8 Posted January 27, 2008 Hi guys, Just bought a Digilux 3, with the rebate offer and a free C-Lux 2, I couldn't resist. So any ideas on where to get one?? Hi Guy, in case you still want to adopt this little Summilux puppy I signed the adoption papers back in August with Matsuiya store in Japan via ebay(baby specs:LEICA D SUMMILUX 25mm f/ 1.4 ASPH). It cost me US $948.89. Service was fast, very polite, great communication and the infant arrived safely. They still have it in stock now, as well as the 14-150mm for $1348,-. I did not go for the 150mm because a f/3.5-5.6 lens is not fast enough for me. Went for Olympus instead. Good luck, Michael Store: eBay Store - MATSUIYASTORE: Zeiss, Pentax, Nikon Item: LUMIX LEICA D SUMMILUX 25mm f/ 1.4 ASPH Brand New - (eBay item 150151938545 end time Aug-15-07 21:09:57 PDT)
gIzzE Posted January 27, 2008 Author Share #9 Posted January 27, 2008 Provided of course he wasn't stopped! I don't mind paying the Tax, but I think being charged tax on the shipping and paying the handling charge for the couriers to clear it when 90% of the time they don't do hardly anything is a bit much. If it were a flat 22% on invoice price everyone would know where they stood and it would be far easier, but when you get hit with charges that equal the cost of the item it does make you wonder? I don't like the way I have been stung again for a Nakamichi head unit that went back to HK for repair, they sent me a new unit out, put the insurance value as $800 and I got stung again for import duty and tax. It said on the waybill no commercial value and the guy refused to let it through until I paid. I even sent the original invoice to them showing it had been paid for 12 weeks previously and they said that I had just bought another one. So right now I have no quarms with trying to avoid a bit of tax on a lens, I can then call it quits!

gIzzE Posted January 27, 2008 Author Share #13 Posted January 27, 2008 Thank you for that. If the UK company can't get me one I will try them, with the Euro being as it is at the moment though €999 is quite expensive.

goodbokeh Posted January 27, 2008 Share #16 Posted January 27, 2008 Interesting - I"ve never seem a firmware update posted anywhere - was there one posted? I've not seen one, I would think Panasonic/Lumix would have offered it by now. I remember reading a Japanese dealer's 25 Summilux auction on ebay and mention was made that the lens had the "latest" firmware. When I received my Lux this past fall its firmware version (shown on my D3) was 1.1. Is your Lux firmware version 1.0?
