grober Posted June 27, 2006 Share #1 Posted June 27, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Done. Now let's see if Germany can produce an electronic system that doesn't need multiple trips back to the dealer for tweaking and/or firmware updates. In two months, I'll start sending in my Leica glass, one by one, for 6-bit coding. If all goes well, I'll be shooting pumkins and pirates, through Leica glass, in digital, by this Halloween. -g

marknorton Posted June 28, 2006 Share #4 Posted June 28, 2006 Why send them all in one by one? I sent them in 8 at a time and DHL did a fine job in getting them there. They're not back yet though! I've got two M8s on order from different dealers, hopefully they won't both screw up.

Maybe you've answered your own question. Unless Leica could guarantee a turnaround of only a few days I wouldn't dream of sending all my M lenses in one go. marknorton Posted June 28, 2006 Share #6 Posted June 28, 2006 I wouldn't dream of sending all mine in one go, either. 3 of the lenses are having other work done, so I'm cool about them taking however long they need to. My experience of Solms is that they are first rate and, if my arithmetic is correct based on Repair Numbers, they're handling 800 service requests a week. Busy place. mhoutman Posted June 28, 2006 Share #7 Posted June 28, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I also send my 5 lenses at once. (almost forgot the Macro-adapter-M for the Macro-Elmar-M 1:4/90 mm ASPH)
andybarton Posted June 28, 2006 Share #8 Posted June 28, 2006 It's a busy place because the world and his assistant seem to be sending perfectly good lenses to Solms for a fancy paint job! So long as all these hundreds of lenses being zebra'd for an as-yet-to-be-released camera are not pushing my R8 to the back of the queue for repairs...
