arthurpreston Posted January 18, 2008 Share #1 Posted January 18, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm not sure if anyone here uses Adobe Bridge, but when I download my Leica photos into bridge, and click on any of the photos, the actual aperture that I used does not show. I have gone to "Edit" and "Preferences", and checked the appropriate boxes, but nothing. All I see in the main panel is f/-- Deeper down in the panel, it does show "maximum aperture", which is for the lens, but that does not help me Have any of you experienced this problem, and how did you fix it? Advance apologies if I have put this question in the wrong forum. Thank you.

andybarton Posted January 18, 2008 Share #2 Posted January 18, 2008 What camera are you using, Arthur? If you are using an M8, then the simple reason is that the aperture is not recorded, as there is no way that the body can know what the aperture is set to. arthurpreston Posted January 18, 2008 Author Share #3 Posted January 18, 2008 Yes, it is an M8. Oh well, I guess I may have to record them manually then. I thought that since the M8 does have lens detection, it would also be able to record the actual aperture. Thanks for your input!
andybarton Posted January 18, 2008 Share #4 Posted January 18, 2008 There is no electronic connection between an M lens and the body (as there is with ROM'd R-lenses, and those from other manufacturers), so there is no way of communicating the aperture to the body. Indeed, the only way of telling the body what lens is being used, is via the 6-bit coding.
sandymc Posted January 18, 2008 Share #5 Posted January 18, 2008 You can get an estimate of aperture that's accurate to within 1-2 stops from the data in M8's MakerNote; CornerFix can updates the file's EXIF with that estimate - its been discussed previously; search the forums on "blue dot" Sandy

I couldn't figure out how to make it update the original file. Robert, CornerFix always needs to create a new file; both for safety, and because of the way that DNG files are encoded - you can't just add fields, you need to recalculate all fields as soon as you make any change.
