I would like to get some authoritative information regarding an M2-KS-15. That's what I've been told anyway. Trying to research information on this camera is just getting me more confused. When I run the serial number through the Leica database, I find it was produced on 9/30/1966. It was one of a run of 504 M2s. Mine has the M4 quick load feature installed by Leica under contract to the U.S.Army (canceled). I have seen where some experts say that only serial numbers between are genuine. Others have differing opinions. My serial number falls outside the range given by 177. The top plate only shows M2, which is the correct stamping for the KS-15 model. All of these cameras were produced in 1966, again, as I read postings. The serial number on my camera is 1160477. Can someone provide some clarity to my confusion? Thanks

I have observed and recorded about 25 of the KS-15's, and own one.  I have never recorded a serial over 1164299.  Not to say it couldn't happen, but i think more proof than just the serial would be required to say it was original.   I assume your camera is 1164477 and not 1160477 per your post.

Hi,

According to James L. Lager's research, the Leica KS-15(4) cameras were produced in 1966 in two batches, with serial numbers 1163150-1163770 and 1164046-1164300.

All cameras I am familiar with were either dated 1966 or 1967.

Are you sure your camera is part of 1160XXX batch, and not 1163XXX or 1164XXX ?
