estenopo Posted Wednesday at 03:36 PM Share #1 Posted Wednesday at 03:36 PM Advertisement (gone after registration) Hola. Welcome, dear visitor! Dr Monochrom Posted Thursday at 01:07 AM Share #2 Posted Thursday at 01:07 AM Hola. Gracias por compartir. Creo que nunca me he encontrado con una cámara con grabado rojo. Traducido con Google Translator.
Giuliobigazzi Posted Thursday at 06:25 AM Share #3 Posted Thursday at 06:25 AM Hello, these red serial leicas are a mystery.. the have been forgotten, but genuine. including yours, I have recorded serials: 423667 (Eucom) 423676 (Offenbach) 423616 423624 A reliable source once told me that an ex Wetzlar factory worker said that these red numbers denoted a shutter modification that would later be implemented in the IIIF. One of these cameras would have to be inspected internally to investigate.

dubois pierre Posted Thursday at 08:00 PM Share #5 Posted Thursday at 08:00 PM This series really existed, I haven't seen one before. It remains to be seen what differentiates them from a normal Leica III.

One of these cameras would have to be inspected internally to investigate. I got two replies from Jim Lager. The first: "I have encountered Leicas with red filled serial numbers but there never seemed to be any reason for this embellishment. I have never heard anything from the service department regarding this. It was so infrequent that we surmised the red color may have been added by the camera's owner. There are probably no service technicians remaining that could comment further." And the second one after I had pointed out the dates and the nearness of the numbers. "Amazing the numbers are grouped so closely. This is possibly/probably significant. Internal and service /production records may have the answers. " I believe that what Jim is saying is that the case for these being' test beds' of some kind is unproven. He had thought that the examples he had before seen were done by owners, but now that he has seen the dates and numbers, he is not so sure. An interesting 'anomaly'. I'll ask around in Wetzlar when I there next month. Lars may know. William
