noodleJam Posted 7 hours ago Share #1 Posted 7 hours ago (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Upgrade to 2.6.0 yesterday and noticed something strange on my M11. Normally, my default settings are auto iso and auto shutter speed; I then rock the Exp Comp thumbwheel to get desired exposure. Post FW update, I occasionally hit thumbwheel, set positive/ negative EC and when I half-press the shutter button, the EC defaults to 0 +/- (or whatever I've set the EC in the menu). This doesn't happen frequently and I've tried resetting the camera and it still happens… and I can't find out what is causing it. If I switch off/on it corrects itself. Have I tripped a setting that resets Exposure Comp on depress of shutter button as this normally locks the exposure. I should note that I'm using highlight-weighted metering. Thanks for guidance. Robert Ardinger Posted 6 hours ago Share #2 Posted 6 hours ago (edited) When I use the camera as you have it set up (Auto ISO and Auto Shutter Speed) I also use Exposure Compensation to tune exposure. If I adjust the compensation via looking at the LCD screen (not via the menu, just pushing on the thumbwheel to get only the exposure compensation scale to show up) and moving the thumbwheel and DO NOT press it in on the thumbwheel again, a half press of the shutter button will just reset it to "0". If I set the exposure compensation THEN press in on the thumbwheel again, the compensation value "sticks". If I use the viewfinder LED guide for compensation, it sticks without pressing in on the thumbwheel at all (meaning a half press does not change it back to "0") (expected behavior and what I usually do). If I use the Menu and select the exposure compensation "box" and set it there (either with the thumbwheel or the multipage selector) it also sticks without further pressing the thumbwheel. I do not know if there was a change in behavior with the new firmware as I did not know I could quickly press the thumbwheel and see the scale on the LCD when not in the menu system until after I upgraded to 2.6. noodleJam Posted 5 hours ago Author Share #3 Posted 5 hours ago Many thanks for your reply, this is interesting, perhaps I'd never noticed it before... I have to admit that I am a recent convert to using auto settings. I think my issue has been not pressing the thumbwheel after setting the preferred exposure comp. As you note, whatever it's set to, you need to press it again before you half-press the shutter release otherwise it defaults to the previous setting (whatever that might be). This seems to be the same whether using the viewfinder or screen. I thought I was going crazy, so thanks for taking the time to come back to me. Derbyshire Man Posted 1 hour ago Share #4 Posted 1 hour ago It depends which mode you have it on. You can set via custom controls that it's live 100% of the time, this removes the need to press to confirm but does mean whenever you take your turned on camera out of the bag there is a risk of moving the exp comp. The alternative is the long press and select exp comp, this then needs a press to confirm. Pros and cons1

I found I was nudging the thumbwheel when moving around so set it up so that it only worked when I pressed. I will now get used to programming a new muscle memory. Many thanks for your advice.
