Hey everyone,

I am shooting with an SL2-S and currently have only primes (50mm 1.8 Lumix and some M lenses) in my kit. Looking to add a zoom for convenience and do not want to compromise too much on optical performance.

Narrowed it down to the Lumix S 24-60mm f/2.8 and the Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 DG DN/LEICA Vario-Elmarit-SL 28-70mm/2.8 ASPH.

For those who have used the 24-60 and one of the two 28-70 lenses mentioned, how would you rate their performance?

Optical Performance & Image Quality

  • How is the edge-to-edge sharpness across the zoom range?
  • Performance wide open at f/2.8 versus stopped down?
  • CA control (both lateral and longitudinal)
  • Bokeh rendering quality
  • Contrast and micro-contrast characteristics
  • Any noticeable focus breathing?
  • Which feels closer to prime-level optical performance?
  • Which one comes closer to the "Leica Look" in terms of colors and micro contrast?

Coming from a prime-only setup where optical performance has been my priority, I want to know which of these zooms will disappoint me less. Is there a clear winner? Considering size and that the 24-60 has a bit more on the wide focal length side, I am leaning towards this one, but the information that is out there is still a bit limited.

Thanks for your insights!

The Sigma and "Leica" 28-70 are optically indentical, so this is only a question if you are prepared to pay the premium for metal mount and weather sealing. I own the Sigma and optical performance is very good, but improves a little upon stopping down. Very compact and light weight also. More than good enought for 99 % of all users.

The 2.8/24-60 I have never tried.
