FrankU Posted 12 hours ago Share #1  Posted 12 hours ago Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello everyone I have not seen any directions on how to set the viewfinder 'push and wheel' button to the immediate right of the viewfinder of the Q3. No number designation appears for it in the 250+ pages Leica Q3 guide. No advice is given. An orphaned control?  Does anyone here use it in some or any way? I had cataract surgery recently and now have "perfect" infinity vision in my eyes. So, how do I twiddle the little button to have it set correctly; or is it completely useless and all or any settings will do? Any help?  For my Sonys they tell us to make an infinity far away object look the sharpest. What about in my situation with the Q3? Thanks for any advice,  FrankU

keithlaban.co.uk Posted 11 hours ago Share #2  Posted 11 hours ago If you are talking about adjusting the diopter setting then the following applies (at least it does on my Q3 43) PREPARATION / DIOPTER SETTINGS 36 DIOPTER SETTINGS The viewfinder has a diopter setting function with a range between −4 and +2 diopter to allow glasses wearers the use of the camera without eyeglasses (diÂopter compensation). Push the diopter wheel into its groove until you hear an audible click This unlocks the diopter wheel and it pushes out a little. Look through the viewfinder Aiming at and focusing on an object Push the diopter wheel back into its groove until it audibly clicks into place
FrankU Posted 6 hours ago Author Share #3  Posted 6 hours ago Well read, Keith. But if I do look through the viewfinder  with my shooting eye, where do I set that wheel? They all look good to me. So where is the 0 Diopter setting?  Or does it not matter? ? ?  That is the question, still open. Do I work from manual focusing? At what distance setting ? For my nightshots of the stars against some tree branches ... at really high ISO (12500 +) and f/2.8 - hand held at 0.5 sec or so ...
keithlaban.co.uk Posted 3 hours ago Share #4 Â Posted 3 hours ago Set to manual focus, stick a magazine article to a wall and focus on the type. Adjust the diopter wheel until sharpest focus is achieved.

Just adjust it to get the sharpest image. And, yes, set the lens to manual focus, and focus on something - anything - until it is as sharp as possible by turning the focus ring, then refine the sharpness with the diopter wheel.
